The Story Behind the HiveHeater

FAQs

Will my bees consume more honey if they are being heated?

This is a very common question, after years of research we have found that your bees do not consume more honey when they're being heated. This happens because your bees expend a lot of energy when they're trying to stay warm, and so if they don't need to worry about staying warm, they end up consuming fewer calories, and often consuming less honey throughout the entire winter.

What if I leave the hiveheater on too long?

Bees are robust when it comes to warm temperatures. Beehives have been known to survive internal temperatures above 130°, the only real concern being that the wax could melt. Leaving the Hiveheater on for an extra week or two won't hurt the bees, but we will be sending out reminder emails at the end of every season just in case!

How does the hiveheater lower the humidity inside the hive?

By increasing the airflow inside of the hive, humidity is decreased

Does this product work with all Hive sizes?

We will be shipping models for both 8 and 10-frame Langstroth hives during the 2024 season, and expanding to less common hive sizes

First time I have had 100% Survival

I live in the mountains in Utah and have had a terrible time trying to keep my bees alive during winter. This is the first thing I have tried that I felt seriously helped my bees.

Good product but needed tape

Hiveheater helped my bees a lot this last winter, but because I use foam hive bodies, I felt I needed to tape the gaps left by the hiveheater between my deeps. My bees loved the heater.

My Hive had no mold in Spring

I've been pretty used to opening up my hive in Spring and finding a few frames with mold on them. I guess the HiveHeater dries out the hive enough to prevent mold growth. I'm getting 2 more for next year

Splits!

I tried a couple hive heaters this winter. I didn't know what to expect but come spring my hives were very strong. So strong i had to do splits to stop my hives from swarming!

Earlier brood more bees

My queen started laying brood earlier than I’ve ever seen. When I opened my hive in February I already had a few frames of cardboard. Never seen that before.
