The Story Behind the HiveHeater

FAQs

Will my bees consume more honey if they are being heated?

This is a very common question, after years of research we have found that your bees do not consume more honey when they're being heated. This happens because your bees expend a lot of energy when they're trying to stay warm, and so if they don't need to worry about staying warm, they end up consuming fewer calories, and often consuming less honey throughout the entire winter.

What if I leave the hiveheater on too long?

Bees are robust when it comes to warm temperatures. Beehives have been known to survive internal temperatures above 130°, the only real concern being that the wax could melt. Leaving the Hiveheater on for an extra week or two won't hurt the bees, but we will be sending out reminder emails at the end of every season just in case!

How does the hiveheater lower the humidity inside the hive?

By increasing the airflow inside of the hive, humidity is decreased

Does this product work with all Hive sizes?

We will be shipping models for both 8 and 10-frame Langstroth hives during the 2024 season, and expanding to less common hive sizes

Game-Changer for My Apiary

Used HiveHeaters on all 5 of my hives. 100% survival rate this spring. This was a first for me. Compact, easy to use, and a must have for cold climates.

Good Product but Slow Shipping

HiveHeater worked well and my bees survived winter just fine. Took about a month longer to arrive than expected, but otherwise happy.

Loved It

Installed the HiveHeater in early November and my hive came through winter stronger than ever. Zero signs of stress, and brood buildup started early. Totally worth it!

Bees Survived Winter—Worth the Wait

I bought the HiveHeater for one of my overwintering hives and I’m happy to report my bees made it through in great shape. They were active early in spring and already building up brood. I definitely think the heater made a difference in their survival and early season strength.

The only downside was the shipping—it took longer than expected, and I was worried it wouldn’t arrive in time to install before the deep cold hit. It did make it just in time, but it was close.

Other than that, the product works as advertised and gave me peace of mind through a rough winter. I’ll probably order another one next season hopefully with faster shipping!

Mixed Results, But Great Customer Service

I bought two HiveHeaters this winter hoping to give both of my hives a better shot at surviving the cold. One hive made it through really well—very active and healthy this spring—but unfortunately, the other one still didn’t survive. Hard to say if that was heater-related or just bad luck.

I did notice some small fitment issues getting the heater properly aligned in my older hive setup, which took a little finagling. That said, customer service was outstanding. They were super responsive and helped troubleshoot the install over email, which I appreciated.

Overall, I think there’s a lot of potential here, and I might give it another shot next season. Just wish both hives had made it.
